After 16 years in the previous location, Body Aware has moved just a few blocks away. We will continue to be on Alberta Street, but we are now at 1626 NE Alberta.
We have partnered with YesYes Healing Garden, an established community-centered healing arts clinic located in a beautifully renovated Craftsman.
We will continue to offer services as a team with the same staff and appointment times. And we will be expanding our service offerings.
Our additional offerings will include:

The anatomy of human movement is an elegant system, with profound intricacies built upon a simple framework. By understanding these universal principles of interconnection and how they apply to your own body, you can lay the groundwork for lasting physical improvements."
Imbalanced musculoskeletal holding patterns can have a domino effect throughout the whole body. After injury, repetitive use, or postural imbalance the affected muscles can go into protective mode, causing other muscles and connective tissue to compensate. While this adaptive response is supportive in the short term, in the long run these misaligned patterns can translate into slower healing or limited movement. This chain reaction may eventually lead to chronic pain, secondary injuries or decreased performance.
When it comes to rehabbing an injury or improving posture, many people’s first thought is to use ice, do more stretching, or to up their strength training program--only to find frustration at not getting results. Stretching and strengthening are important, but, without a plan, these exercises can reinforce old dysfunctional habits and movement patterns. It’s important to look at the big picture to create a balanced routine.
Subtle shifts in how you breath, how you move, and even how you sit and stand can have a big impact on how you feel. Tools like foam rollers, yoga blocks, therabands, and tennis balls give you assistance and support. With expert guidance and actionable strategies, you will be empowered to transform your health.
Our individualized stretch and strengthen instruction sessions will give you the knowledge to create a practice you can do on your own at home. It can be a full series of exercises or small adjustments that can be worked into daily life. We’ll offer suggestions and teach you a variety of self-massage skills, and the ways to get the most out of your foam roller.
On the initial visit you will receive a personalized assessment, handouts explaining exercises, and a detailed plan of action based on your needs. This plan may include:
#1 Massage is an ideal treatment for soothing post-exercise muscle pain, or DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness). Lactic acid is often cited as the culprit for DOMS, but there’s more to it—lactic acid is removed relatively quickly from the muscles. DOMS is in part a response to the microscopic tears of muscle fibers associated with vigorous exercise. To repair these muscle tears, the body initiates an inflammatory response that can cause pain and discomfort. Edema or fluid in the muscle compartments can also cause redness, swelling, and pain.
#2 Sports Massage improves blood circulation to the muscles, tendons, and connective tissue. It also increases lymph flow, which helps to reduce edema and remove toxins. More blood flow and better lymphatic drainage means faster healing.
#3 Massage benefits are not limited to the physical body. The calming effect of massage improves concentration and lowers stress, which can equal better performance.
