Frequently Asked Questions

If you can't find the information you're looking for, feel free to give us a call or send an email.

How Do I schedule an appointment?

Our online service makes it easy. You can see available days and times and choose a therapist. Once you schedule online, you will receive a confirmation email and a reminder email the day before your massage appointment. You can also call us at 503-287-1444 or send us an email.

Do you take walk-ins?

WE DO NOT TAKE WALK-INS. We are open by advanced appointment only. Although same-day appointments may be available, the best option is to check Varago, our online schedule system, or call us. Please remember that we are a small practice without a receptionist. Please be patient when trying to reach us!

How do I cancel or reschedule?

In the confirmation email, you find a link to reschedule if needed. If you must cancel your appointment within 24 hours of your session time, please get in touch with YOUR THERAPIST DIRECTLY.

You will find the therapists' direct lines in your appointment confirmation email. Massages canceled with less than 24 hours' notice are subject to the full charge.

Of course, we understand that life happens, and nobody WANTS to miss out on their massage; if you are ill, injured, or unable to make your session due to a personal emergency, we may be able to waive the cancelation fee.

Please respect that we are a small business, and each missed appointment affects us. In the case of a late cancellation, we will do our best to fill the time slot; if you do, you won't be charged. So please let us know right as soon as you are able!

NO-SHOWS will be charged full price.

How do I buy a gift certificate?

If you would like to buy a gift certificate online, you can do so anytime. If you want to pick up a paper gift certificate, call or email beforehand to arrange a pickup time. We do not have reception hours for walk-ins.

Do you offer mobile massage?

Currently we are not offering mobile massage. We will keep you updated if this changes!

Do you accept my insurance?

We currently accept Regence/ BCBS, Providence, PacificSource, and Auto Insurance. Please see our insurance page for more information. You can also call us if you have questions.

*Please note that not all therapists take all insurance, and some insurance companies are slow to update practitioner listings, so it's important to check with us  for the most up-to-date information.

What type of massage is covered by my insurance?

If you plan to use insurance benefits for your visit, please select the “medical massage” option when booking your appointment. Any requested upgrade or session times longer than 60 minutes will be charged separately and paid for by the client upon session completion.

Is your office accessible for mobility impaired clients?

As our treatment rooms are on the second floor of a building without an elevator, climbing one flight of stairs is necessary to receive bodywork at our office. If your needs require accommodation, please call us here and leave a detailed message. We can provide outcall massage for clients with mobility concerns.

Can I use my Hsa account for massage?

Yes. All Massage practitioners can accept HSA debit cards or give you a coded receipt to submit for reimbursement. To confirm if your plan covers massage therapy, check with your benefit administrator to confirm

I was injured in an auto accident do I need a referral?

If you were injured in an auto accident, have an open PIP claim, and have a referral from a primary care practitioner, we can bill your auto insurance directly. Please email this information to me before your first visit or bring it to your initial appointment. Or you can email it to us.

Do you offer discounts?

We do offer last minute discounts based on availability. To receive updates, join our mailing list, or follow us on Facebook or Instagram.

We also offer discounted and free services during our training clinic. Priority for these sessions goes to marginalized community members unable to afford treatment, and these session focus on pain and injury rehabilitation or recovery from trauma. Please email us for more information.

Do you book groups of clients, for parties or showers?

We have three treatment rooms and can see three clients if they are booked simultaneously.  If you have several people at a party who would like treatments on the same day, this will depend on our schedules and availability, and advanced reservations will be necessary.

should I tip After a massage?

Many clients are unsure if and how much they should tip their massage therapist. Tipping is always appreciated and never expected. We love what we do and gratefully accept tips as a token of appreciation. But if adding a tip becomes a barrier to coming regularly, we would always prefer to see you more often.

It is customary to tip 10-20% for those able to tip. Keep in mind that gift certificates and prepaid sessions do not include a gratuity. If your budget doesn't allow for tips, but you still want to show appreciation, consider referring a friend and leaving us an online review.

do you offer erotic services?

Although certainly not asked frequently, this is a question that we want to address clearly.

Any sexual innuendo, advance, or remark towards a practitioner at Body Aware Massage is ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE.

Body Aware specializes in therapy-driven, professional massage only. Any client soliciting Body Aware Massage for sexual services will be reported to the Portland Police immediately and will still be responsible for the full cost of the time booked. Additionally, our therapists reserve the right to cancel or end a session if they feel uncomfortable at any time for any reason.

If you are looking for something other than professional massage services, we ask that you do not contact us!

Do I have to listen to whale calls or flutes during my massage?

This is YOUR session. No whale calls or flutes, unless that’s your jam, in which case, whale calls and flutes it is.
