Ashiatsu is a style of deep tissue massage that’s often referred to as “barefoot Shiatsu.” Although the word “Ashiatsu” means “foot pressure” in Japanese, Ashiatsu therapists may also use their hands, elbows, thumbs, and palms. For stability, therapists use parallel bars attached to the ceiling as they work their feet to massage muscles and activate the body’s energy channels. This gravity-dependent therapy allows for deep and constant pressure, increasing circulation and speeding the healing process. Ashiatsu is known as “the deepest and most luxurious massage on the planet.”
